ON READING
Two of the images clearly reflect the evolution of reading practices. In the first one, a grandmother is reading with her grandson. They are probably sharing a storybook chosen by the adult, and the moment seems warm and meaningful. This image represents reading as a social and emotional activity, closely linked to family bonding and early literacy development. The child is likely to associate reading with comfort and positive emotions.
In contrast, the image of the woman using an iPad represents digital reading. She may be reading an e-book or an online article, possibly chosen through digital recommendations. Unlike the previous image, this situation shows reading as an individual and technology-mediated activity. While it offers accessibility and immediacy, it may also involve more distractions.
These two images highlight the shift from traditional, shared reading experiences to more individual and digital practices.
From a personal perspective, I enjoy reading novels and articles, both for pleasure and for professional development. I also read articles related to topics that interest me, such as skincare and nutrition. Interestingly, I read approximately 60% in English and 40% in Spanish. As an English teacher, my professional role clearly influences my reading habits.
I tend to choose the same genres in both languages. My choice is not determined by the language itself, but by my interests. However, English is often the language in which I access professional materials and many online articles.
My reading habits have changed over the years, especially due to technology. I now frequently use a Kindle, and I also read many articles on my computer or mobile phone. Digital formats have become more present in my daily life, particularly for shorter texts. While I still appreciate traditional reading, I have clearly adapted to new technological formats.
I usually read in the evenings, just before going to bed, which allows me to unwind after the day. Articles, on the other hand, I tend to read during my free time, in short intervals throughout the day.
Overall, my experience reflects the transition from shared and print-based reading to more individual and digital practices. Technology has not reduced my reading habits, but it has transformed the format and contexts in which reading takes place.
